Competition Brief and Design Approach
This project redesigned a 6,700 sq. ft. building for a construction company, focusing on an exterior facade makeover, improved accessibility with an ADA-compliant ramp, and enhanced natural light.
Inspired by Michigan State’s passive solar design guidelines, the open-close facade concept provided protection, a welcoming entrance, shading, and semi-private spaces. The extended ceiling unified the design while accommodating storage and technical needs.
Circulation elements like ramps and stairs were discreetly integrated, maintaining balance, while durable, locally available materials reflected the company’s identity. The structural design emphasized elegance and functionality, aligning with the building’s purpose.
