The Concept of “Becoming”

The concept of “becoming” focuses on creating spaces that are adaptable, transformative, and resilient. It envisions architecture as a continuous process rather than a static product, responding to environmental, social, and temporal changes. This approach integrates modularity, sustainability, and contextual relevance, redefining relationships between built and natural environments.

The Prototype

The prototype is a solid articulation of abstract concepts related to water resilience, composed of three main aspects: Solid, Flexible, and Contextual. Embodying the principles of transformation and adaptability, it will be tested in Brugge and Zeebrugge for further refining. The design explores modularity, waste reuse, and dismountability to ensure sustainability and resilience. Made with solid elements, platforms, and flexible volumes, the prototype serves as a framework for creating dynamic, future-proof spaces. It emphasizes the integration of water relationships, the redefinition of boundaries, and the embrace of temporal shifts.

Brugge

In Brugge, the prototype features solid foundations, platforms, and flexible volumes. Solid elements, such as columns and grains, provide stability, while platforms establish connections between land and water. Flexible volumes adapt to their surroundings, transforming spaces and appearances. The design harmonizes different elements, creating a dynamic urban platform that blends public and private spaces. Inspired by Brugge’s water relationships, the project redefines spaces with modular, sustainable components.

Zeebrugge

In Zeebrugge, the prototype embraces subtraction, where removed volumes create new spaces for offices and public areas. Elevated, translucent platforms enhance flow and connectivity, while flexible curtains reshape experiences. Solid elements, resembling crane-like structures, reinforce the design’s identity. The project integrates modularity, waste reuse, and water inclusivity, redefining boundaries and transforming the urban landscape with resilience and sustainability.
