The project, “The Power of Justice. Spatial Strategies for a Fair Energy Transition in North – West Europe,” was a group research, vision, and proposal made by Arjanne van der Padt, Hasan Hashas, Małgorzata Rybak, and Jing Spaaij. It addresses the urgency of transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy by 2050. The project focuses on the region between Rotterdam and the Ruhr-area, aiming for a just and resilient energy transition through spatial strategies and policies. It considers three main pillars: geopolitics, social justice, and ecology, utilizing frameworks like circular economy and pattern language. It proposes spatial planning for mixed land-use, interconnected energy landscapes, and expanded nature areas. The ultimate goal is to create a resilient energy network that is affordable, accessible, and fair, with strong international collaboration
